The objective of the Hong Kong Heart Failure Society (HKHFS) is to promote the advancement of education of heart failure both to professional community and general public so as to protect and preserve health of the people of Hong Kong.

Dear Members, Friends and Colleagues,

On behalf of the Hong Kong Heart Failure Society (HKHFS), it is my great pleasure to welcome you to visit our new website.

Heart failure is an important disease with an estimated 64 million heart failure patients worldwide. The estimated heart failure prevalence is about at least 1% in a 7.5 million population in Hong Kong and thus there are more than 70 thousands patients suffering from heart failure in Hong Kong. More importantly heart failure carries high morbidity and mortality with estimated 20 thousand acute decompensated heart failure admissions each year and mortality is about 50% by 5 years after heart failure is being diagnosed. These facts are very alarming but fortunately nowadays we have many evidence-based treatments that were clearly demonstrated to improve both survival and quality of life of heart failure patients and we have good heart failure guidelines for us to follow. However, the challenges would be the unmet need to better adopt the guideline into our clinical practice. Also given the high prevalence of the disease, it will never work if we work in an individual manner. As a result, a group of enthusiastic colleagues in Hong Kong decided to join together to take up this challenge in combating the war against heart failure. Moreover, our group received many valuable advice from our distinguished international advisers that a society dedicated to heart failure should be formed in Hong Kong so that colleagues can join together to fight this war as in the case of Heart Failure Society of America, British Society of Heart Failure and Heart Failure Society of Singapore. With all these backgrounds, the HKHFS was established in 2021 to take up this challenge. Through the HKHFS and our new website, we hope that we can unite our effort to improve professional service and increase public awareness of this important disease in Hong Kong.
